Seeing reflections in the billabong:
white barked eucalyptus fringed with green leaf canopy.
Hearing birds rustle in the branches,
showing a wing, a tail, a head, calling out their names.
Cockatoo, butcherbird, willy wagtail, kookabura.
On the water’s surface, an elegant cormorant,
diving under quickly on my arrival.
A floating branch becomes a freshie-
a synesthetic moment with an alligator head and foot,
a sudden splash of tail, circles on the water, then stillness.
Kingfisher dives and alights on a nearby limb,
feathers wet and glistening blue.
